Picture Day!

I may be biased, but I'm pretty sure this is the coolest class at CLX! Have a great weekend, Room 203 families! :)

Skyping with Second Graders in India!

Hi Room 203 families,

Yesterday was such an exciting day! We Skyped with a 2nd grade class at Shanti Bhavan Children's Project in India! All kids were stoked about the Skype call. First, our class read The Hungry Caterpillar then Shanti Bhavan students read a book they are currently studying in their English class.

Next, we had a chance to ask each other questions. Students were thrilled to hear that they had a lot of the same interests in books, movies, food, and sports! As I taught our class before the Skype lesson, we are all "Same, same, but different." We are alike in more ways than we are different and our differences are what make us special. I believe it's important for students to realize these similarities and differences from an early age to help increase their global awareness and appreciation for diversity.

Since we had to end our Skype call unexpectedly due to the fire drill, Shanti Bhavan sent us a sweet video saying goodbye! We hope to Skype with them again soon!

Until next time,

Ms. Wertheim

Ms. Wertheim's Class at ACS Board Meeting

Hi Room 203 families,

I just wanted to remind everyone about our exciting event this Monday night at the Asheville City Schools Board Meeting!

Your child has been given the opportunity to showcase his/her learning at the Asheville City Schools monthly board meeting this Monday, October 6th at 6:30 p.m.

I am asking that students please arrive at 6:15! Our class will be showing the Board how we integrate science and technology with literacy through a Comprehension Toolkit lesson.

I will be demonstrating the lesson for the Board and your child will have the chance to show what they've learned by modeling the lesson along with me.   It will be a science lesson about nonfiction text features and how they help us learn when reading nonfiction texts about States of Matter.

The Board meeting will be held in the board room at Asheville City Schools Central Office. All students who attend will be given a homework pass and 5 purple tickets! Most importantly, this is an incredible opportunity for your child to showcase his/her learning and feel proud of all their hard work so far this year.

If you have not already done so, please send back the yellow form with your child to let me know whether you will be attending. Feel free to call, email, or send in a note with any questions or comments you may have. As always, thank you so much for all you do to help support your child's learning.

I hope to see you there tomorrow night!

-Ms. Wertheim :)
