News from Room 203: Week of January 12

Hi Room 203 families, 

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! 

Learning Goals:
  • FUNdations: We are wrapping up Unit 7, which is a three-week unit. This unit focuses on multi-syllabic words as well as vowel suffixes and consonant suffixes. Students are continuing practice with marking base words and suffixes and identifying long and short vowel sounds. See the Fundations tab here on my blog for video tutorials on marking base words and suffixes. Our Unit 7 test will be this Thursday, January 15th. 
  • Reading: We are working on answering questions such as who, what, where, when, and why when reading. We are continuing to build stamina during Daily 5 practice. 
  • Writing- We are working on informative science research reports. Our current focus is weather. 
  • Math- We are wrapping up double digit addition and subtraction story problems and moving into data collection and data reporting. 
  • Science- We are studying weather and weather patterns. 
  • Social Studies- We are studying maps and globes and participating in Mystery Skype with other classrooms around the world to practice map skills.

Important Dates
There is NO SCHOOL this Friday, January 16th. It is a teacher workday, and no school next Monday, January 19th.
